Valentino Party at Pierre Hotel

The most sumptuous party this year was a fancy dress bash in New York's Pierre Hotel for Roman designer Valentino [...] There were 250 guests, and the tab was picked up by Robert Kenmore, president of Kenton Corporation, which last year purchased the Valentino couture house.

The ballroom was divided into three tents draped in off-white linen-like gauze, with the center one as the main tent. These windows look out on Fifth Avenue and Central Park. The giant chandelier was bagged in Indian print fabrics, and seating was low cushions or pillows on the floor. The large room was divided into many seating groups around 12-inch-high banquettes covered in striped fabric or Oriental rugs [...]
