Saturday Night Live (1992)
Aired: February 22, 1992 on NBC
During the "Coffee Talk" sketch featuring Mike Myers, Madonna, and Roseanne Barr, Barbra Streisand made a surprise appearance!
Streisand told the story of how her cameo came about during her 1992 Academy of Achievement speech:
“I actually had called my friend Lorne Michaels, who's the producer [of SNL] because his movie was such a big hit. I just called him to say congratulations about your movie. And he says, we happen to be doing a skit that involves you tomorrow night. And I was going to the theater. And he said 'Why don't you just pop on?' And I said, 'No, no, I can't do that.' But it was sort of intriguing, so after the theater I just went by and I said 'Look, I have to wait until the last minute to see how I'm going to feel, you know, don't push me on or don't tell anybody. So nobody knew I was gonna do it. [Marty Erlichman] was pushing me on, so there I was in front of all these people. Mike Myers knew I might come on, but the two women didn't know at all. And it was really, actually kinda fun.”
In the skit, the three Jewish broads from Queens had all finished saying that Barbra was "like buttah." Barbra poked her head out and said, "All this talk about food's got me hungry, girls!"
The audience went wild and the three "Coffee Talk" girls were genuinely surprised. It was all orchestrated by SNL creator Lorne Michels. Barbra then air-kissed Madonna and waved to the audience before she made her exit.
The SNL skit is available on the DVD The Best of Mike Myers, which you can order at Amazon.com by clicking here.
