Have you seen the Barbra Barbie in the Spring Preview 2010 Barbie catalog? Thanks to Mitzi, here's a scan:
The catalog says the Barbra Streisand doll is part of its Pink Label Collection, and includes a photograph of the real Barbra at the Cocoanut Grove in 1963.
(Here's a link to purchase the Streisand doll at Amazon.com. As always, a small portion of ANYTHING you purchase from Amazon through my links goes to help support my work here at Barbra Archives: and I really appreciate it.)

Things to Come ...
Here's a very unofficial look at what Barbra Streisand is up to—career-wise—in the upcoming months and years. [Rumors and unconfirmed items below...]
Live at Village Vanguard DVD
Due Date: February 2010
Streisand was captured by hi-def cameras during her September 2009 one-off performance at New York's Village Vanguard jazz club. The DVD, which I hear will contain some short featurettes and historical photos from Barbra's past, is due in February.
Due Date: July 2010
Streisand returned as Roz Focker for the third part of Ben Stiller's comedy series. Her role is small but we hear she's very funny and looks fantastic.
Due Date: Unconfirmed/Rumored
There's been rumors of Streisand concerts in New Zealand and Australia.
Due Date: Unconfirmed
Barbra said she'd like to record an album of Alan and Marilyn Bergman songs that she has not yet sung. It's possible this may be her next studio album project.
“A Passion For Design” [working title] Book
Due Date: Fall 2010
Rick Kot, executive editor at Viking Books, will edit. The book will contain many of Barbra's own photographs of rooms she has decorated, furniture and art she has collected, and flowers and vegetables she's grown in her gardens. In the book, Barbra will share memories of her childhood, the development of her taste and inspirations, and what collecting and style mean to her. The Viking press release also stated the book will chronicle Streisand's previous residences, “from her New York apartment to her Los Angeles townhouse and her homes along the California coast.”
[Note: I'm curious if, behind-the-scenes, Streisand and Viking struck a deal for the design book *and* an autobiography .....]
The Normal Heart
Due Date: Unconfirmed
Streisand's been working on directing the screen version of Larry Kramer's explosive play, The Normal Heart, since the mid-1990s. It's entirely possible the movie will finally go into production in 2010, with Streisand directing. We've heard lots of rumors about who's attached to star. (I'm betting on Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman ... but that's just an educated guess, based on whose company Streisand has kept lately!)
[I'm very excited about this project. IMHO, I think Heart is a much more dramatic and important gay-themed film than Milk, which was feted at awards time. I participated in a staged reading of Normal Heart here in D.C. a few years ago and it's still very powerful, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house! Barbra is passionate about this piece ... I hope it moves forward!]
My Mother's Curse
Due Date: Unconfirmed
A possible comedic movie role for Streisand! In Hollywood every year, Universal film executive Franklin Leonard compiles “The Black List”—a list of favorite scripts that were unproduced that year. On this year's list (at #31) is My Mother's Curse. This is the film that is reportedly being developed for Seth Rogen and Streisand to star in.
Here's the scoop:
MY MOTHER'S CURSE by Dan Fogelman
“The young inventor of a new organic cleaning product invites his mother on a crosscountry road trip as he tries to sell his product to marketing outlets. His ulterior motive is to reunite her with a man she loved when she was young, and her motive is to help him overcome his ‘curse’ of non-commitment in relationships, for which she blames herself.”
AGENT: William Morris Endeavor - Danny Greenberg
MANAGER: Industry Entertainment - Eryn Brown Paramount Pictures.
Michaels Goldwyn producing.
“Release Me” (Rarities Project)
Due Date: 2011 or 2012
Columbia and Streisand will release a “rarities” CD, most likely to celebrate Streisand's golden anniversary of recording. It's been rumored to be a 3-CD set of unreleased tracks, 7-inch singles, and hand-picked, previously-released tracks. A companion DVD of rare Streisand videos is rumored as well.
December 17, 2009
Barbra Archives hears that Streisand has wrapped her scenes as Roz Focker in Little Fockers. The rest of the cast contines to film, but Barbra is done. I'm told Barbra looks amazing in the movie and is really funny in it, too.

Roz Focker Spotted
Barbra, wearing a black smock which covered her costume, was photographed in Pasadena, Calif. this weekend filming the Meet the Fockers sequel. She's got her Roz Focker wig on, and that's Barbra's dog behind her.
Part two of Streisand's interview with UK talk show host Paul O'Grady aired today. The third part will air on Thursday's show.

Streisand Segment Airs on O'Grady Show
Paul O'Grady aired the first part of his Barbra Streisand interview today on Channel 4 in the UK. Two more segments will air this week, so make sure to watch!
In part one of the interview, Streisand tells a funny story about flowers she received from a British fan named "Charles".

Streisand On Paul O'Grady
Some more inside info about Barbra's appearance on The Paul O'Grady Show...
(FYI for U.S. readers: O'Grady is a UK talk show host on Channel4.)
O'Grady interviewed Barbra at her hotel, where they talked about her new record, her career, & Barbra's favorite British things.
Streisand's interview with Paul O'Grady will air next week.
I've also been told that O'Grady may air more of the interview in one sitting or separate it, depending on other guests scheduled that week.
[Note: The Paul O'Grady Show, currently airing on the UK's Channel 4, will air for the final time in December. O'Grady will then return to ITV to host a new prime-time show in the new year.]
Streisand's appearance will most likely be a ratings winner for O'Grady's final Channel 4 shows.
Streisand taped the show in September when she was in UK doing publicity for Love is the Answer.

Village Vanguard DVD
Per Barbra Streisand's official site today, Barbra's historic Village Vanguard performance is coming to DVD February 2, 2010.
November 22, 2009
There's been a few articles about Barbra's involvement in the Meet the Fockers sequel, currently filming with Ben Stiller and Robert DeNiro. Streisand is back as Roz Focker (although it's not been officially announced yet).
I have heard from a few fans with “connections” to the show that Barbra has already filmed her scenes and was on set in Pasadena at the Queen Anne Cottage at the Los Angeles County Arboretum (which stood in for the Florida Focker homestead in the last film). We hear she has a short, funny scene that is near the end of the film.
Barbra's 1967 recording of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” appears on the latest Starbucks holiday CD, Making Merry (thanks to Mitzi for the scans below!)
I've been told the track is the same as what's on Barbra's Christmas Album ... no rarities here!

Sunset Blvd.—Putting Rumors To Rest
Streisand fans seem to split down the middle about whether Streisand should portray Norma Desmond in the musical version of Sunset Boulevard, which has been long-rumored as being made into a movie musical.
[For the record: I never understood why Streisand would do this role? Sure, she sang two songs from it ... but I've always thought the role was really not right for her.]
In any case, Streisand specifically answered the question about her involvement in the film during her BBC radio interview promoting Love is the Answer.
The interviewer asked her if she was doing the movie musical of Sunset. Streisand replied:
Well it [the SUNSET movie] actually was happening for a while, and I turned it down twice. And it's a hard one, because it was a great movie. I thought she was a little over-the-top, Gloria Swanson. He was very good, William Holden. It would need work for the film, a lot of work, I think, ya know...
IMHO, the Lloyd Webber musical never transcended the exceptional, original film with Gloria Swanson.
So ... for the record ... that's Streisand's comment about it all.

The Return of Roz?
A fellow Barbra fan has alerted me that the Meet the Fockers sequel will soon be shooting at the Pasadena location (the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens) which stood in for the Focker homestead in Florida in the last film.
Barbra is expected on set.
This is unofficial and unconfirmed ...

Barbra Streisand Places a Special Call to The Doctors to Discuss Heart Health for Women, November 16
On Monday, November 16, Barbra Streisand calls The Doctors to discuss her passionate crusade to support heart health awareness for women, a cause which led her to create and endow the Barbra Streisand Women’s Cardio Vascular Research and Education Program at Cedars Sinai Medical Center.
Barbra tells The Doctors, “I’ve always been an advocate of equal rights for women, so why should women’s health research be done on men? Physiologically, we’re different. I made a movie about it called ‘Yentl.’ It’s just silly. I was shocked when I heard that medical research for women was being done on men. How do you treat a woman for such a life threatening ailment based on treatments, diagnostics and technology based on men?”
Heart Disease runs in Barbra’s family: “My family on my mother’s side all seems to have had heart disease.”
Appearing on the panel alongside The Doctors, during the conversation, is Dr. C. Noel Bairey Merz, the Director of Women’s Health at Cedars Sinai, who reiterated “Heart Disease is the number one women’s health care threat.”
THE DOCTORS is a one-hour, daytime talk show delivering up-to-the-minute information from a panel of four practicing medical professionals in a compelling and entertaining format five days a week. View the website >>

Streisand & Mercer
Barbra Streisand appears on a couple of Johnny Mercer projects. November 18 would have been Mercer's 100th birthday.
Mercer was a brilliant lyricist and wrote the words to several songs that Streisand included in her repertoire over the years, including Any Place I Hang My Hat is Home, Come Rain or Come Shine, I Had Myself A True Love, Moon River, and My Shining Hour.
Footage of Barbra singing Any Place I Hang My Hat (from Color Me Barbra) is included in the Turner Classic Movie's documentary Johnny Mercer: The Dream's On Me (directed by Clint Eastwood). The documentary airs on TCM:
- Wednesday, November 18, 2009 @ 6:00 PM
- Saturday, December 19, 2009 @ 2:00 PM
Barbra's previously released Live 2006 version of My Shining Hour can be heard on the companion CD, Clint Eastwood Presents: Johnny Mercer "The Dream's On Me" A Celebration of His Music.
Finally, KFAI radio has produced a 2-part show about Johnny Mercer and is publicizing that Streisand participated with comments on the lyricist. The Mercer show airs in 2 parts Nov. 18 & 25 from 6 to 9am. FKAI is streaming the show live. Here is a link.

Streisand UK Book
I just ordered and received a new Streisand coffee table “picture” book: Streisand by Nick Yapp. I haven't had a chance to read the text, but the photographs in the book are nicely reproduced and rare! It's UK-published, so you have to order it from Amazon.co.uk. (Or you can Google it for another source!)
Update: A few fans alerted me that Barnes & Noble has a good price on this book. Link is here.
By the way, I have also updated Barbra-Archives' Streisand Collectibles page, which contains some rare DVDs, Books, and Biographies that Streisand fans may want to add to their collection. I receive a few cents commission if you click on the link and order from Amazon, so thanks for your support.

Julien's Streisand Auction
According to AP: “A robe worn by Barbra Streisand in "The Way We Were" sold for nearly $6,000 and an outfit from "Meet the Fockers" went for $3,500 at an auction of hundreds of the entertainer's personal items. A Stickley china cabinet brought in $15,000 and a wig worn by Streisand in "On A Clear Day You Can See Forever" sold for $3,500. More than 400 of Streisand's dresses and suits, books, designer furniture, paintings and vintage collectibles were on the block at the weekend sale conducted by Julien's Auctions. All proceeds go to Streisand's favorite charities — including City Year, the William Jefferson Clinton Foundation and the Cedars-Sinai Women's Heart Health Center.”
The auction this weekend made more than $600,000, beating a $400,000 to $600,000 estimate, said Julien’s.

Streisand Auction This Weekend
Julien's Auctions will conduct its auction of Barbra Streisand items this weekend, with profits benefitting The Streisand Foundation. Here are links to various stories about the auction.
Barbra, Liza & That “Sex & The City” Story
Like the old-fashioned game of "Telephone", some stories get stretched a bit as they spread over the internet.
Liza Minnelli confirmed to the Sydney Morning Herald's cabaret writer that she'd be singing in the new Sex & The City movie. [We'll not spoil it here!]
The newspaper reported: “Minnelli confirmed fellow diva Barbra Streisand would also appear in the flick's lavish wedding scene.”
Somehow, that one sentence has spread across the internet as: Minnelli will be performing with BARBRA STREISAND in the film!!
The Sex & The City movie sequel plot is under wraps, so it's doubtful we'll hear what the exact nature of Streisand's appearance in the film will be.
However, we're pretty sure sloppy reporters got the details of this recent story wrong. We think Streisand will have a non-singing cameo.

Streisand at Village Vanguard
New York City’s 7th Avenue was buzzing with excitement on Saturday night, September 26, when Barbra Streisand performed a free concert at the historic Village Vanguard to an audience of 100 of her luckiest fans from around the world, who'd been chosen from tens of thousands of entrants in a variety of contests launched on the artist's website, BarbraStreisand.com.
Crowds and onlookers of all-ages thronged the streets and sidewalks around the venue hoping for glimpses of the legendary performer who'd last performed in Greenwich Village in 1961, and for notables, including former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Chelsea Clinton, Sarah Jessica Parker and Nicole Kidman attending the once-in-a-lifetime event.
Streisand decided to return to the Village Vanguard to perform the songs from Love Is The Answer — her new album of jazz standards and classics — in the most intimate setting possible. With its astounding acoustics and deeply comfortable vibe, The Village Vanguard — an epicenter of the New York jazz scene since an all-jazz policy was implemented in 1957 — was, and is one of the most renowned musical venues in the world.
During her Vanguard concert, Streisand performed songs from her new album, as well as personal favorites and some surprises, in an extraordinarily warm and powerful set, as the artist and her audience shared an evening filled with music, magic and memories.
Several people with connection to Barbra’s early Greenwich Village days appeared to present Barbra to thunderous applause including Lorraine Gordon, widow of the Village Vanguard’s owner, Max Gordon; Rick Edelstein, a waiter at the Village Vanguard who arranged for a then-teen-aged Streisand's first audition at the venue, and lastly, Marty Erlichman, Barbra Streisand’s longtime manager, who was introduced to Barbra by Rick Edelstein in 1961. Backed by a small, tightly-honed band, Streisand delivered passionate and unforgettable performances. The full set-list included, in order of performance:
- “Here’s To Life”
- “In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning”
- “Gentle Rain”
- “Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most”
- “If You Go Away”
- “Where Do You Start”
- “Make Someone Happy”
- “My Funny Valentine”
- “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered”
- “Some Other Time”
- “The Way We Were”
Performance footage from The Village Vanguard show will be available on AOL.com beginning on Sunday, September 27, as well as on BarbraStreisand.com starting on Tuesday, September 29.
Note: Some footage from London as well as The Village Vanguard will appear on the CBS Sunday Morning show, airing 9/27/09.

Another Fockers Update from Director
The director of the Meet the Fockers sequel, Little Fockers, recently told MTV News that
“It’s Ben Stiller, Bob De Niro, Owen Wilson. They’ve all moved on with their lives and at the beginning of the movie, Greg and Kevin --- Ben and Owen’s characters –- are in a good place,” Weitz said of the plot. “Ben has earned [De Niro's character] Jack’s respect, and it’s about no matter how you’ve moved ahead in your life, there’s still anxiety and insecurity around the corner for you.”
Weitz also confirmed that Teri Polo was returning as Greg's wife, Pamela.
As for Streisand and Dustin Hoffman as Mr. and Mrs. Focker, Weitz was uncertain.
“Everyone’s in talks,” he said of those two names. “I don’t really know.”

Barbra in In Style Magazine
Barbra is in the current September issue of InStyle magazine on page 200 (Jennifer Lopez is on the cover of the magazine). It is the 15th anniversary issue. The first cover, which was Barbra, is in a pull-out replication of all of the covers since on page 87.
In the mag, Barbra reveals “Mattell is making a Barbie of me with this look [sailor outfit], and do you know how much time it's taken me to get it right? The prototype came back with the skirt split in the back, and I said, 'No, no, the slit has to be on the side, the bow has to be floppy, the microphone is too high, and my hair is not the right streaking!'”

“Little Fockers” Update From Screenwriter
The screenwriter of Little Fockers, the sequel to Meet the Fockers, spoke with ComingSoon.net and gave an update on the status of the movie.
Hamburg: Larry Stuckey wrote the first draft of the script and we've been re-imagining it and writing a new draft. We had to figure out sort of like what the spine of the movie is and how to crack the story and we had to keep it fresh and not just the obligatory three-quel. It's been really fun. A lot of the players from the first two are involved and it's been fun. Paul Weitz is directing it and we've had a good time trying to crack the script. Yeah, I think we're coming up with something that's going to be a good continuation of the saga.
CS: Do you have any idea when you'll start shooting? Is that on the horizon?
Hamburg: I don't know exactly. It's something on the horizon, but I don't know that there's an official date yet.
Streisand fans should note that, to date, she has still not been announced as returning to the Fockers series as Roz Focker.
James Brolin Interviewed in L.A. Times
Mr. Brolin was interviewed in the Times about his new film and career. Barbra, his wife since 1998, came up during the interview:
“I always look at things and say, 'Will Barbra be proud?' ”
[...] “She does such elegant work. Am I the guy who is going out and doing the tacky stuff? So I weighed it a lot. I decided to do it because I wanted to do comedy stuff so bad.”

Barbra Streisand to auction items for charity
By SANDY COHEN (AP)
http://www.juliensauctions.com/ [View & Order catalog here]
LOS ANGELES — Want to lounge in a wicker chair from Barbra Streisand's sunroom? Perhaps wear one of her designer dresses or tinkle the keys of her baby grand piano?
Your chance is coming in October, when Streisand will auction more than 400 personal items to benefit her charity.
"What good does it do in storage," the 67-year-old entertainer said. "Let someone else enjoy it. These things, they're not forever. We pass them on and reap the benefits for something important."
A collector throughout her career, Streisand is selling costumes from her films, including a dress from "Funny Lady," a robe from "The Way We Were" and several outfits from "Meet the Fockers."
There's a gold Dior pantsuit Streisand wore to the 1986 Grammys, an old phonograph she bought when she was 18 and "one of the first pieces of furniture I ever bought: A dental cabinet. That's hard to part with actually," she said. "I wish I had room for it. I don't."
Dozens of dresses and suits, books, designer furniture, paintings and vintage collectibles are also being auctioned.
Streisand decided to part with items from her Beverly Hills, Malibu and New York homes because she's "through with extra stuff."
"The community is better served if I get rid of it and give all the proceeds to my foundation, which does really good work," she said.
She plans to donate all proceeds from the sale, scheduled for Oct. 17-18 at the Beverly Hilton hotel, to the Streisand Foundation, which supports women's, children's, environmental and political causes.
Among the beneficiaries: City Year, which Streisand said "brings together a core of diverse young leaders that provide vital resources to youth in local neighborhoods"; the William Jefferson Clinton Foundation ("We gave a big chunk to the climate change initiative," she said); and the Cedars-Sinai Women's Heart Health Center, which supports cardiac research for women.
"For decades women have been treated based on medical research done on men," Streisand said. "So it's about time that proper research be done and communicated to women so they'll be more informed about their health."
Highlights from the sale will be exhibited aboard the Queen Mary 2 during its trans-Atlantic cruise this month and then in Ireland and New York before landing in Beverly Hills, where the auction will be conducted by Julien's Auctions.
Meanwhile, Streisand is working on an album for release in September and preparing to act and direct in "a couple of movies on the horizon." She's also making a book about her new home.
Parting with old possessions makes it easier to focus on the future, she said.
"I'm a collector, so one collects and collects and collects," she said. "But now I have enough stuff and I want to concentrate on other things, so it's a good time to clean (the) closets."

“Little Fockers” Casting Notices
On May 1, a casting notice for twins (a 6-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl) to play the 5-year-old twin son (“Henry”) and daughter (“Ashley”) of Gaylord (Ben Stiller) and Pam (Teri Polo). Perhaps a clue about the film's shooting schedule is revealed in the casting notice. The twins will be required to work July '09 through Oct '09. Assuming they probably have one of the biggest roles in the film (besides Ben Stiller), that is most likely when the FOCKERS sequel will be shooting. Most notices said “production begins” July 2009—which is not the same as “filming begins”.
More notices were sent out July 30th:
[TOUGH KID] 7 yrs old, he teases Henry for peeing his pants, gets in Greg’s face when he threatens him…2 lines, 1 scene
[RUFUS] Tough 5 yr old who takes Henry’s tricycle, runs him over, but then gets knocked off the bike by Samantha…1 line, 1 scene NEED LEGAL 6 TO PLAY 5 YRS OLD
[SVETLANA] Kevin’s hot, bikini-clad Russian girlfriend…6 lines, 2 scenes SPEAKS WITH A RUSSIAN ACCENT
[DR. PATEL] An Indian/South Asian doctor at the medical conference…1 line, 1 scene
[MR. ANDROVSKY] 50’s, overweight, diabetic patient getting an enema from Louis…3 lines, 1 scene.
It's also rumored Raven-Symoné will portray a babysitter in the film.
Still no official announcement about Streisand's involvement, nor the size of her role as Roz Focker.

Barbra Laughs Loudest at Screening
Jeremy Piven is currently costarring with James Brolin in the used car salesmen movie, The Goods.
PIVEN: ... James Brolin would go home to his wife, Barbra Streisand, at night, and I would say, "James, is she OK with all this?" Because he has one of the most twisted roles you've ever seen, as you know — and I don't want to give it away. He was like, "Well, the wife is on the fence about this whole thing," and she came to a screening and I swear to God, Babs laughed the loudest.
CNN: I think that's a tease in itself. That would probably get people to see it.
PIVEN: Yes, I think you're right. The movie is OK'd by Barbra Streisand; she vetted the whole thing.

About that $50 Essential CD
A few people have emailed me about a new version of The Essential Barbra Streisand that's showing up at online stores for around $50.00.
The new CD was produced in Japan. It's Catalog Number is SICP-20190/1. It contains the same songs as the 2002 Essential.
This new CD is a BLU-SPEC CD. Sony Japan developed the Blu-Spec format, which “takes Blu-Ray disc technology to create CDs.” Apparently, a Blu-Spec CD uses a different polycarbonate plastic (which is the material used for Blu-Ray discs). During the manufacturing a blue laser diode is used to cut the CD. It is playable on regular CD players — no Blu-Ray player required to listen!
A more technical description I found online says: “Blu-spec CDs are compatible with existing CD players but have been mastered with higher levels of accuracy by using the same technology used to author Blu-ray discs, with the intention of eliminating reading errors that occur as a result of being authored with traditional red laser technology.”

Film: Streisand + Rogen = “Mother's Curse”, plus “Little Fockers” Update
File this one under "needs a finished script, schedules to align, and forward momentum" ...
Seth Rogen, the young star of Knocked Up and Superbad, talked to the press about "one of the many projects I may or may not do in the next fifteen years," called Mother's Curse — a road comedy that is designed as a mother/son film for Rogen and Barbra Streisand. Drew McWeeney broke the news yesterday.
Meanwhile, although nothing official has been announced to date, it looks like the Meet the Fockers sequel is proceeding. Apparently, it is titled Little Fockers.
No word on how big (or small) Barbra's part as Roz Focker will be ... Barbra Archives has heard that they'll begin filming in September. Dustin Hoffman is filming a movie in Rome which begins on Aug. 17th. It's said that the Fockers sequel is considering shooting in Chicago. Paul Weitz will direct.
Writer John Hamburg recently told IGN, “We're catching up with these characters five years later and Pam and Greg have twins so they are dealing with that. And people are dealing with where they're at in their lives, and themes of death and divorce and all these real things that as we get older, we start to think about, but in a really comic way.”
Look for the Fockers sequel with a 2011 release date.

Columbia Records Announces the Release of 'Love Is The Answer,' the New Studio Album of Jazz-Flavored Classics & Standards by Barbra Streisand
- Artist's First New Studio Collection Since 2005
- Features Intimate Jazz Settings by Diana Krall & Arrangements by Johnny Mandel
- Love Is The Answer Available Everywhere Tuesday, September 29
NEW YORK, June 22 -- Columbia Records proudly announces the release of Love Is The Answer, the eagerly-awaited new studio album from Barbra Streisand, available everywhere on Tuesday, September 29.
The first full-length collection of new studio recordings from eight-time Grammy award winner Barbra Streisand since 2005's Guilty Pleasures, and first new Barbra Streisand album since Live In Concert 2006, Love Is The Answer presents the artist as a cabaret and jazz singer of emotional clarity, depth and maturity, offering the listener a warm and intimate selection of late night meditations on love's powers, heartbreaks and solaces.
Love Is The Answer provided an opportunity for Streisand to work for the first time with the Grammy-winning Canadian jazz artist Diana Krall (piano) and her quartet (guitar, bass, drums) who brought a refined and sensual poignancy to the album's spare and subtle accompaniments.
Rounding out the album's smoky after hours ambience with his sublime orchestrations is the legendary songwriter ("The Shadow of Your Smile") and Grammy-winning arranger Johnny Mandel (who worked with Streisand on her 1993 Back to Broadway album and arranged/co-produced Krall's 1998 Grammy-winning When I Look In Your Eyes).
According to the RIAA, Barbra Streisand is the #1 best selling female recording artist in history and the only woman to make the Top 10 all time best selling artists list, which includes Elvis Presley and The Beatles. Over the course of her career, Streisand has recorded 50 gold, 30 platinum and 13 multi-platinum albums. An artist of unparalleled accomplishments in multiple entertainment fields, Streisand has made her mark as an award winning actress of stage and screen, recording artist, concert performer, movie producer, film director, screenwriter and songwriter. Having earned two Oscars (Best Actress and Best Song), five Emmys, 11 Golden Globes, 10 Grammys including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement and Grammy Legend Awards, a special Tony Award (in 1970 as "Star of the Decade"), two Cable Ace and three Peabody awards, she is the only performer to hold honors from all of those institutions. In addition, Streisand is a recipient of the American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award, America's National Medal of Arts and France's Legion of Honor. In December 2008 she became the first female director to receive the prestigious Kennedy Center Honor.
Barbra-Archives note: "Love is the answer" is a quote from the lyric to Jule Styne's song, “Make Someone Happy” ("...Love is the answer, Someone to love is the answer...")

Official Pics from Bergman Tribute
I'm back from a (wonderful!) vacation and a little late getting this up .... This is from the May 29th Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences tribute to the Bergmans.
Streisand read from her liner notes from her upcoming album. She said:
Marilyn and Alan Bergman, my dear friends. Family. Their lyrics are profound, poetic, and yet very conversational. They have the most exquisite way of expressing affairs of the heart with specifics and detailed observations that make it so easy for me as an actress to relate to.
Streisand was a bit more specific about a Bergman tribute album that she wants to record: it would contain songs that she hasn't yet sung by the Bergmans!

Streisand Attends Bergman Tribute
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences paid tribute to Alan and Marilyn Bergman on Friday, May 29, 2009 in Los Angeles.
Streisand fan Lauren attended, took some photos, and wrote about what happened.
Update: May 31, 2009:
Lauren added: “Barbra announced last night that she will be doing a tribute album to Marilyn and Alan Bergman at some point in the future”.
So the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is doing a summer of special events. I was on their site a couple weeks ago and saw that they were going to have a tribute to Alan and Marilyn Bergman. So I bought my tickets right away. It ended up being a sold out event so good thing I bought them when I did.
The tribute was so nice. Not long after my friend and I were seated, we hear clapping coming from the center of the audience. I look over and who is it, BARBRA walking down the aisle to her seat with James Brolin! I was in shock! I mean I had a feeling she would be there of course but I was like oh what are the chances, maybe she's traveling, etc. She looked gorgeous, she was totally noticeable while seated because she was wearing an all black sparkly outfit. She was glittering everywhere, LOL. She looks very tiny in person too.
It was hosted by Quincy Jones and there were many performances (Barbra did not perform). Alan Bergman sang and many musicians that have worked with them performed. They showed many clips from various films. The tribute opened with a "The Way We Were" montage. At the end was when Barbra came up to the stage and sat with the Bergman's and Quincy while they all shared their favorite memories. It ended with "A Piece of Sky" being shown on the big screen. So many people were tearing up at all the moving music that the Bergman's have written over the years. Marvin Hamlisch sent in a clip since he couldn't attend. Which was very nice.
So after everything was done, some people left but of course many of the crowd headed straight for where Barbra and the Bergman's were seated. I was not about to miss my opportunity to see my idol that I've looked up to my entire life. So my friend and I ran over to where they were. Right away I spotted Barbra talking to people not far from me. I saw other people with cameras out although we weren't supposed to have them. I managed to get a pic of Barbra when she was a few feet from me ...
So anyways, a minute or so later, I see Barbra heading down the aisle..with her body guard...slowly because of the crowd. So I tell my friend, "head down the aisle, she's going to walk by us if we head down". So we do and sure enough she started getting closer, it was so quick but i was literally an inch from her and my friend and i were like "barbra we love you, we admire you so much"..she stopped, looked at both of us and said in a very kind and endearing way, hi and thank you....I was so happy she at least took the time to stop and say something even though they were whisking her away. I know I'm only 22 but she's been my inspiration since I was 5. In between all of this, Marilyn Bergman headed toward us too and was so sweet! She wasn't being rushed out so it was easier to say a few more words....such a warm and kind person.
Thanks so much to Lauren for sharing her adventure ... and the photos!

Streisand-Penned Book Due 2010 From Viking
The Associated Press reported that Streisand is writing a book:
The singer, director and actress has reached an agreement with Viking for "A Passion for Design," an illustrated book scheduled for fall 2010 that includes photos of the Malibu, Calif., oceanfront compound she worked on for more than five years, and of other residences, back to her early years in New York.
In writing about where she lives (the book is expected to have up to 50,000 words of text), she has been writing about herself "because I'm spurred on by the writing process," Streisand said Wednesday during a brief telephone interview with The Associated Press.
Long reluctant to discuss her private life, the 67-year-old Streisand said she has been working on chapters, in longhand, for a separate book. But she hasn't made up her mind whether she will complete the memoir and publish it.
"I go back and forth," said Streisand, who has received numerous show business honors, including Academy Awards, Grammys and Emmys. "Do I really want to write about my life? Do I really want to relive my life? I'm not sure."
But she is deeply committed to her current project, calling it the culmination of a lifelong passion for American architecture and design. She spoke of visiting landmarks around the country, from the Monticello estate of Thomas Jefferson in Virginia to Edith Wharton's house in Lenox, Mass. - The Mount, which Streisand explored with camera and tape measure.
She sees the book as answering questions she has often asked herself: Why is she so fascinated by furniture, gardens and how homes are constructed? Why was she buying antique clothing as a teenager? Why, in the basement of her new house, did she reproduce a city street? Why did she even write a script about her home?
"As a filmmaker even, I got very involved in set production and design and colors," said Streisand, a known perfectionist whose directing credits include "Yentl" and "The Prince of Tides."
The deal with Viking, an imprint of Penguin Group (USA), was negotiated by Robert Barnett, better known as the literary representative for political leaders, including President Obama and former President George W. Bush. Barnett says he met Streisand through mutual friends and Barnett clients - former President Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Financial terms were not disclosed. Viking President Clare Ferraro, who declined to say how much the publisher paid, said she visited Streisand's home in April, a planned two-hour stop that lasted 4 1/2 hours and didn't begin to cover all that Streisand had done.
"Everything is perfect, down to the flowers, to the metal plates on the doorknobs," Ferraro said. "I remember her living room. The color scheme was in pink and burgundy and green and if you looked out the window you saw there were roses in the same color. And throughout the house, the outside matched what was inside.
"It's just breathtaking, her whole house. I went home and ripped the flower bed out of my porch because the flowers didn't match my porch furniture."
Ferraro said Streisand will "get pretty personal" in the book, saying that she likely will offer childhood experiences and stories about her career. "She discovers a lot about herself through her passion for design and fashion," Ferraro said.
Married to actor James Brolin, her second husband, Streisand said she wants to get back into filmmaking after setting her career aside to work on her house. She is hoping to obtain rights to Larry Kramer's play "A Normal Heart," a story she has been interested in for years, and has recruited some "interesting cast members" whom she declined to identify.
"This house has taken a lot out of me," she said. "It was a project. Instead of directing a movie, I built a house. And it's so much more complex than doing a movie."

Jon Peters Tell-All
Hollywood producer (and Streisand's ex-boyfriend) Jon Peters has pulled plans to release an explosive memoir. “I have been besieged by potential lawsuits and threatened litigation by some of the most important figures in the world of show business,” Peters wrote. “What's worse... is the fact that I consider all these people my friends... I want my book to be a celebration of, never an attack upon, the remarkable people I have known and worked with.”
Vanity Fair has posted an interesting story about the Peters memoir, along with a great, color photo of Streisand and Peters, circa 1973.
On May 20, Streisand posted a Truth Alert on her official website about this story, which circulated last week. She said:
Just for the record...the claims and statements attributed to me in Jon Peters' book proposal are either completely distorted or simply untrue.
Page Six is reporting that Barbra Streisand's ex, Hollywood mogul Jon Peters, has sold his memoir to Harper-Collins and that he spills some secrets about his professional relationship with Streisand.
In the proposal for his memoir, "Studio Head," which was sold last month to Harper- Collins for $700,000, Peters writes he "wanted to kill" Ray Stark, producer of "Funny Girl" and "The Way We Were," when he learned that "Stark, an ogre of male chauvinistic casting-couch sexual entitlement, had molested both Lesley Ann [Warren] and Barbra when they were auditioning for him, and neither had ever really gotten over it." Streisand's publicist, Ken Sunshine, did not return repeated calls, nor did a rep for Warren.
Peters writes that "Barbra may have had her neuroses and insecurities, but getting men, the men every woman wanted, was not one of them." He claims she confided in him that she'd had "life-imitates-art affairs with Robert Redford on 'The Way We Were' and Ryan O'Neal on 'What's Up, Doc?' and had just ended another with Kris Kristofferson, then at his hunkiest" in "A Star Is Born."

Barbra Participates in Documentaries
Barbra Streisand has participated in two film documentaries recently.
The first— which has already premiered at several film festivals— is No Subtitles Necessary: Laszlo and Vilmos — about the 50-year friendship and careers of László Kovács and Vilmos Zsigmond, both ASC (The American Society of Cinematographers) members. László Kovács photographed Streisand in 1972's What's Up, Doc? and 1974's For Pete's Sake. Vilmos Zsigmond worked a few days on Funny Lady in 1974. The documentary has not been released on DVD yet. But stay tuned, and check your local film festivals for a showing in your town!
Secondly, Streisand has filmed an interview for inclusion in a Montreal-based documentary about composer Michel Legrand, titled Un génie de la musique (A genius of music). The documentary—which includes interviews with other Legrand associates like Tony Bennett and Quincy Jones—is due to be released in late-2009 or early-2010.
[Thank you Michel Filion for the tip!]

Inside Barbra's Birthday Party This Weekend
From the Piers Morgan website, about Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins:
Katherine [Jenkins], who is here making an album with hotshot music producer David Foster, was getting ready for bed at her hotel on Friday evening when she suddenly got a phone call from Foster asking her if she fancied going to Streisand’s 67th birthday party.
She got dressed faster than Chris Moyles races to a McDonalds with a Big Mac voucher, and hurried down to the venue — a vast mansion in Bel Air. And that’s when Foster sprang his biggest surprise.
“I want you to sing for Barbra,” he said. I’ll let Katherine take up the story.
“I was completely shocked and had nothing prepared. But David and I sat round the piano and quickly chose an aria to sing. By which time about 100 people had walked into the room including all these huge stars like Warren Beatty and Hugh Jackman, and of course Barbra. “And so I sang the aria, and then David asked me to sing Happy Birthday to Barbra too, so I did that. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. She is one of my heroines.”

CBS Concert News Roundup
Updated 11:30am EST:
The overnight Nielsen ratings are in for Saturday, April 25th. About 4.98 million viewers tuned in to watch the one-hour Streisand special on CBS. Streisand: Live in Concert was “the winner” for the evening, ahead of Cops, Law & Order and the Harry Potter movie on other networks.
The special also generated good sales for the three-DVD set, Streisand: The Concerts, due in stores tomorrow. The set has been in the top 5 on Amazon.com's DVD best sellers list (their list is updated hourly).
As for the hour-long special ... Surely it will be remembered come Emmy time? Comparing it to the complete 2:19 minute DVD and Blu-ray, here's a report on what CBS actually aired and how it differed from the DVD version:
- Ten songs: Starting Here, Starting Now; The Way We Were; Evergreen; Funny Girl; My Man; When the Sun Comes Out; Carefully Taught/Children Will Listen; Unusual Way; Somewhere; Don't Rain On My Parade.
- There was an onscreen dedication to the late Sydney Pollack after Barbra sang The Way We Were. Pollack, of course, directed Streisand in the film. This dedication is not on the DVD.
- CBS aired three commercials for the three-DVD set.
- CBS aired the special in HD with 5.1 sound, even though they neglected to post this on their website.
- When the Sun Comes Out was integrated into the CBS show. (It is a “bonus track” on the DVD and Blu-ray).
- The dramatic through-line of Barbra's dog, Sammy, was retained for the CBS special. Sammy appeared during the overture; the intermission; and they even included the footage of Renata bringing Sammy on stage at the end of the concert, as they rolled the credits.

Barbra Archives Review: “Live in Concert 2006” Blu-Ray Disc
I received the Blu-Ray disc of Streisand: Live in Concert 2006 last month and have been watching it ever since. Several loyal readers have asked for my review of the show, so here it is!
Presented in 1080p video resolution and an aspect ratio of 16x9, Live in Concert 2006 is Streisand's first foray into the Hi Def market, and her first Blu-Ray disc ever (although her rendition of “Smile” on Tony Bennett's 2006 special looks stunning on Blu-Ray!). The video was captured by hi-def cameras in Florida in 2006, with a few pickup shots in Los Angeles. Gary Smith is back — this time as co-director of the television special (Streisand and Richard Jay-Alexander directed and conceived the stage show). Smith, of course, produced Streisand television specials in the 1970s and 1980s with his partner, the late Dwight Hemion.
The video quality of Live in Concert is excellent. It's very exciting to see a Streisand concert in "widescreen" format. I immediately noticed how vibrant the image was: I could see the texture of the carpet on Barbra's stage; the sparkly black of her microphone cover; the subtle reflections of colored light off the handrails of the stage set; audience members in pools of light in the background. It's a gorgeous-looking show! And the wonders of Blu-Ray technology serve it well. (Putting on the 1994 Anaheim concert afterwards felt like going backwards from stereo to mono! Video technology advanced by leaps and bounds in the 12 years between these two concert specials.)
I don't have any comments on the audio for the simple reason that I entered into the world of Blu-Ray by purchasing a new player, but not a fancy sound system. I am listening to the Streisand disc through my television speakers (2.0 PCM stereo). I am very anxious to hear the 5.1 surround mix. I imagine it is stunning.
As for the show itself ... It's a faithful capturing of Streisand's 2006 tour show. Directors Smith and Streisand introduce a supporting character in the television special: the audience. They constantly cut away from Streisand to show audience members singing along, crying, applauding, and generally enjoying the show. Viewers who've never seen Streisand live may be surprised to see what a fun bunch we fans are! The audience shots lend a charming air to the special. Whereas Streisand's 1994 Anaheim show felt stately, like she was making a command performance, the 2006 show feels more like A Happening in Central Park—the audience is there to have a good time and hang out with Barbra for a couple of hours. Conversely, Streisand appears relaxed, in the moment, and genuinely interactive.
Barbra sounds fantastic and looks amazing. (The detail on the Blu-Ray shows off that gold eye makeup she uses in the second act. Wow!) Divas half Streisand's age (Mariah Carey: The Adventures of Mimi, and Christina Aguilera's Back to Basics: Live and Down Under) utilize overdubbing and digital touch-ups for their television specials, so I hope some of the “mean” critics out there don't get personal with the Streisand show.
Mostly, I was impressed with Streisand's performance on Live in Concert 2006. In closeup, Streisand is clearly present and acting the songs she's singing. “Funny Girl” has an amazing closeup, as does “Unusual Way”(who is she singing about??). And seeing Barbra perform “Have I Stayed Too Long At the Fair” reminds me how moving this song was when I saw the concert back in 2006. Although Streisand hasn't made a dramatic film since Prince of Tides in 1991, she clearly hasn't lost her “film face”—as evidenced in the closeups on this show.
The Bush skit was excised, and I am happy about that. The show now flows evenly from the Q&A into “Happy Days”. The backstage footage of Streisand and her little dog, Sammy, is precious and a great, personal touch. Unfortunately, Il Divo's dialogue with Streisand is still stilted—but they're very cute in Hi Def. Streisand and Sammy singing “Smile” is adorable and, again, shows that Streisand can be in the moment.
A random, favorite moment of mine: Streisand, on her way to her dressing room after Act One, says, "My god, it's a long way to this dressing room." Hilarious!
The bonus material is generous—although the original plan to include side-by-side rehearsal and final show comparisons sounds fascinating! “Nobody's Heart Belongs To Me”—Barbra and piano—is fantastic. It's nice to see “When the Sun Comes Out”, although this audio track was included on the Barnes & Noble CD two years ago.
It's great to see Barbra's creative team in the Behind the Scenes Interviews. Marty Erlichman makes a rare on screen appearance, as does Jay Landers. And Sammy's Mommy's script (as shown by Gary Smith) is hilarious!
The Streisand Foundation interview with Marge Tabankin (Executive Director of Barbra's foundation) is interesting. It's nice that it was included, since the tour's profits were “spread around, encouraging things to grow!” I came away with a new appreciation for Streisand the Humanitarian. Ultra-Right commentators out there may be interested to know that Barbra is not only generous, but thoughtful with the money she contributes.
It's also fun to play "name the celebrities" in the opening overture. Here's what I came up with: Oprah, Tony Bennett, Diane Lane, Regis Philban and his wife, Meg Ryan, Mike Wallace, Roslyn Kind (blowing a kiss), Ben Stiller, Bebe Neuwirth, Maxine Smith and Carole Bayer Sager, Gene Simmons (Kiss), Rob Lowe, Sarah Jessica Parker, the late Sydney Pollack, Tom Hanks, Kenny G and his son, Jim Brolin (with brown hair), "Al" Sharpton, Katie Couric, Sting, director Rob Marshall, Nancy Pelosi, Bette Midler, Robert DeNiro, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, Donna Karan, Marvin Hamlisch, Hugh Jackman, Gloria Estefan, Rosie O'Donnell and Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Geraldo Rivera, Cis Corman (sitting), Stephen Sondheim, Alan and Marilyn Bergman, and Jason Gould.
Graphic designer Mary Maurer (@2310 Design) replicated her tour program design again for the Blu-Ray menu and the insert booklet, making the packaging of the Blu-Ray very handsome and consistent with the tour products.
It will be interesting to see how they edit the 139-minute show down to less than an hour for the airing on CBS on April 25th.
Streisand fans, though, should be very happy and satisfied with Live in Concert 2006. It took a couple of years to be released, but the final product is gorgeous and it is nice to see Barbra Streisand in the new Blu-Ray format.

“Yentl” To Kick Off Stanley Kramer Theatre / Sunset Studios “Films That Changed The World” Screening Series
From Streisand's publicist, a Los Angeles event:
Barbra Streisand’s initial directorial effort, “Yentl,” has been selected as the first motion picture to be honored in a screening series to be dedicated to “Films That Changed The World,” it was announced by series creator, Kat Kramer, of behalf of the Stanley Kramer Theatre and Sunset – Gower Studios. “The history-making film, first major studio production ever produced, directed and co-written by it’s female star, shattered Hollywood’s glass ceiling like no other film ever did. It is the perfect example of what this screening series is designed to celebrate,” Kramer stated, who is carrying on the legacy of her socially-conscious father.
The series will kick off with a special showing of the Streisand film on the afternoon of Saturday April 18 at the newly renovated Stanley Kramer Theatre on the Sunset Gower lot. Guest speaker will be Marilyn Bergman, Streisand’s longtime friend and Academy-Award-winning lyricist for “Yentl” together with her husband Alan Bergman. Bergman will address the obstacles Streisand had to overcome to make “Yentl,” a film for which the star won Golden Globes for both Best director and as Producer of the Best Film, and which earned five Oscar nominations.
The afternoon festivities, to be attended by an exclusive invitational list of top female achievers in film, and leading activists in causes relating to the rights and well-being of women, will begin with a 2 p.m. tea party, Bergman’s keynote speech, and discussion of how the Streisand film has impacted feminist causes.
Representatives from the ENOUGH Project and RAISE HOPE FOR CONGO to Protect and Empower Congo’s Women campaign will be in attendance. A board of Director’s for the new screening series is currently being formed.

Return of the Fockers?
Columnist Roger Friedman at FoxNews.com reported this week that the entire cast of Meet the Fockers will regroup for a sequel, Little Fockers, set to begin production in July from Universal Pictures/Tribeca Productions.
Friedman did not cite any sources, but reported that Blythe Danner, Robert DeNiro, Dustin Hoffman, Teri Polo, Ben Stiller, Barbra Streisand, and Owen Wilson would all return to play their original roles.
Director Peter Segal (Get Smart and Tommy Boy) is expected to replace Jay Roach, who directed Parents and Fockers and who is not available to direct the third film. Friedman observed: "The title suggests more than one baby for Stiller and Polo's characters. So get ready possibly for twins, which also means DeNiro and Hoffman may have extra screen time as warring grandfathers."
Last week, Variety reported that Segal was meeting with the film's principal players. Variety also reminded us that the Meet the Parents franchise is one of Universal's most lucrative, “with a combined worldwide gross just north of $820 million”.
No official announcement from Universal has been made as of yet.
The last word from Streisand on the subject was mid-March. She told a Newsweek interviewer: “If the script is very good, and I'm not directing another movie, maybe I would do it”.
How amazing would it be if Streisand filmed the Fockers sequel in July, then leveraged her participation in the sequel to begin filming The Normal Heart with Universal by year's end????

More Little Fockers
Dark Horizons interviewed John Hamburg, charged with writing the script for the next FOCKERS movie. Streisand, by the way, has not officially committed to doing the sequel, although she has said she will participate if she likes the script.
Question: Is Little Fockers a go movie?
Hamburg: I don’t know if it’s officially a go movie, but I know everybody wants to try to make it some time in the next six months.
Question: And you’ll try to get Barbra and Dustin and Bob DeNiro and everybody back?
Hamburg: Try? We have dinner once or twice a week. So, we’ll all just maybe get together – just kidding.

Streisand Interview in Newsweek
Streisand was interviewed for Newsweek magazine (read the interview online here), promoting the DVD of Yentl. Ramin Setoodeh did a good job on the interview, and didn't ask "the usual" questions. Therefore, he elicited some uninhibited answers from Ms. Streisand, including comments on the Fockers sequel (“Well, if the script is very good, and I'm not directing another movie, maybe I would do it.”) and her ebay auctions (“Chloe for $9.99? I think I'll buy it back. What does it look like?”). LOL.

Return of the Fockers?
Over at MTV, the writer of the third Fockers film commented on whether Streisand and Hoffman would return as the parent Fockers:
“I think everybody is going to be back in some capacity,” said John Hamburg, in response to our query of whether Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand would be a part of his script for the sequel. Hamburg is penning a rewrite of the “Fockers” script after Larry Stuckey wrote an earlier version.

About Those Concert DVDs and All Those Amazon.com Release Dates
Dear Barbra Streisand fans .... by now you know that (a) Live 2006, (b) Anaheim 1994, and (c) Putting It Together (1986 HBO Special) are being released on DVD in a box set. Additionally, Live 2006 will be available separately as a Blu-Ray disc release. [Track listing & cover art are here >>]
Unfortunately, at this point the release dates are a little fuzzy.
If you've been clicking on Pre-Order links and searching Amazon.com for the correct release date on those Streisand concert DVDs, then please be patient.
Here's a quick explanation of what's happening ....
- Sony was originally going to distribute the DVDs. Sony had an April 28th release date in their system. That date has been "uploaded" to several sites, like Amazon, Best Buy, etc. Sony, however, is no longer distributing the set ... the 28 April 2009 date is, apparently, incorrect.
- Universal Music Group is distributing the DVDs.
- The UK has a 16 March 2009 release date.
- I'm trying to confirm the US release date ... however, it's hard to get past the telephone "gate keepers" to find someone who can help.
- It looks like UMG will release the Streisand DVDs in the US on March 17th ... possibly April 7th. (This is unconfirmed.)
- As for Amazon ... feel free to Pre-Order using the links here. However, please realize that it may be necessary — once the correct info finally gets posted on Amazon — to cancel your original orders and re-order. (Remember the Yentl DVD confusion? Oy!)
The good news is that — soon — Streisand fans will be able to own and play three DVDs!
Meanwhile, if someone from Universal Music Group would like to send me a press release, or clarify the release strategy, feel free to contact me at: matt [at] barbra-archives [dot] com.

“Little Fockers” Moves Forward
According to a Reuters report today:
Stiller, De Niro and Owen Wilson are in negotiations to star in "Little Fockers." Owen, who had small parts in the first two pictures, could have an expanded role in the new film.
Jay Roach, who directed the first two films, will produce "Fockers" but not helm the picture. He's concentrating on the comic romp "Dinner for Schmucks" for DreamWorks.
Directors Paul Weitz, David Wain, and Peyton Reed are being considered as directors for the new sequel.
No word yet on Streisand and Hoffman as Stiller's parents. John Hamburg, who collaborated on Meet the Fockers, is working on the new screenplay.

Amazon is accepting pre-orders.
- Pre-Order the Blu-Ray disc of Live In Concert 2006 here (*Blu-Ray player required to view it!) >>
- Pre-Order the 3-DVD set here >>
Here's the track listing for the forthcoming 3-DVD set—most likely due out in late-April 2009. The tracks have appeared online at ebay— so this is unofficial, but probably the final track listing.
Sony Music confirmed to Barbra Archives that Live 2006 will be released in Blu-Ray format. Live 2006 by the way, was filmed with hi def video cameras. Besides Meet the Fockers, Live 2006 would be the first Streisand-centric release in that format.
The other two DVDs are available in the 3-DVD set.
[Barbra Archives notes that it appears, according to this track list, that the George Bush skit has been edited from the show, unless it is included in the 6 minutes that is "Stoney End"... Also, please note the three bonus songs, including "Nobody's Heart" and "Woman in the Moon"!!]
[One more Barbra Archives note: It looks like the "bonus song" which was included on the original 1994 Blockbuster Video VHS tape of the Anaheim Concert ("What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life") is not included on the Anaheim DVD. That's a shame.]

Looks like a new DVD release is coming our way. According to play.com, the DVD (region 2) will be released in Europe on March 9, 2009. No news on the US release yet.
The DVD set will contain:

- Putting It Together: The Making of the Broadway Album (* assuming this is the "bonus" DVD).
Barbra Archives will report on this special set soon!

Diamond Wants to Duet
Entertainment Blogger Marc Malkin had a few words with Neil Diamond recently. Malkin asked him about another duet with Barbra Streisand. Diamond said:
"Barbra and I talk, so I'm sure there'll be something," he said. "I hope so. She's wonderful."

Streisand Does Press for YENTL DVD
Barbra has talked to USA Today and to The Associated Press about YENTL arriving on DVD, her future plans, and the new album with Diana Krall.
Here's what Barbra revealed:
- Diana Krall has not recorded a duet with Streisand ... yet. (They're looking for the right song).
- A "possible" sequel to Meet the Fockers
- Directing again. ("There's something I've been working on for many many years and it's kind of almost time to get back into my directing role..."). I'm assuming Barbra is talking about The Normal Heart.
- Missing Obama's Inauguration: "I just couldn't be away for four days to rehearse and sing. But it was great watching it on television, from my warm bed."
- Names of songs from the new album can be found on this page.
- The YENTL page is here, with two video podcasts by me and Paul Katz about the amazing DVD!

Confirmed: Streisand Not at Inauguration b/c of Recording Commitments
Streisand's publicist's office confirmed to Barbra Archives today that “Diana Krall’s schedule was such that there was only a two week window for her to record the album with Barbra. Barbra was without choice to follow her heart to D.C.”
In addition, a clarifying item by Liz Smith was run in her column today:
BARBRA STREISAND? You won't see her at any of the Inauguration functions -- though she was most certainly asked to appear! But she and Diana Krall will watch the ceremonies from a recording studio in L.A. where they're working feverishly on Barbra's new album. Diana is producing with her trio. They are toiling like crazy in a limited two-week time period that unfortunately coincides with Washington's festivities. Barbra says she is happy she could do her L.A. fund-raiser for the president-elect and even though she won't be in D.C. on Tuesday, he knows her heart is there along with 300 million other Americans.

Barbra-less for Inauguration
Barack Obama's inauguration is next week. A big, celebrity-filled performance event takes place on Sunday, January 18th at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and will be broadcast by HBO.
Yesterday, on the official Inaugural blog, the intial lineup of stars who will perform on Sunday was announced.
Streisand was not on the list.

Live in Concert 2006 TV Special/DVD
The most common email that I receive here at Barbra Archives (sometimes 2 or 3 a day!) is: when will Barbra's 2006 live television special be released?
If you recall, there was an original plan to release the show on DVD in February 2007, alongside an abbreviated version which would air on NBC. That plan, for whatever reasons, did not materialize, and Streisand fans have wondered if they'd ever see Barbra's live special (which was filmed with hi-def cameras in Florida in 2006).
Well, over at Craig Hall's Barbra Streisand Forum, word is that the special will finally air in conjunction with the release of Barbra's new album (which was produced by Diana Krall).
Look for an abbreviated version of the special (probably one hour in length) to air on a network station, and for the DVD to be released concurrently.
So .... between March and May 2009, it will be a virtual Streisand smorgasbord, what with a new album, the Yentl DVD, and the Live 2006 television special.

From Roger Friedman @ FOXNews:
Which stars are going to play at the 10 official Inaugural balls?
Sources tell me that it was only this weekend that President-elect Barack Obama's Inaugural committee started sending inquiries to potential musical guests.
In the mix: Obama stalwarts Stevie Wonder, Barbra Streisand, and Bruce Springsteen, I am told, were each asked to play at specific events around Washington on January 20th.
