STREISAND SENDS A MESSAGE WITH ONE VOICE

Warner Strategic Marketing Celebrates 20th Anniversary of Legendary Benefit Concert with DVD Debut of Performance Showcasing Streisand’s Biggest Hits and Classic Covers in 5.1 Surround Sound

Available September 12 from Warner Strategic Marketing

LOS ANGELES – Barbra Streisand invited an exclusive audience of 500 Hollywood celebrities to her palatial Malibu home in September 1986 for her first full-length concert in two decades. The landmark performance helped raise millions for Democratic candidates and was later broadcast on HBO to great acclaim. To commemorate the 20-year anniversary of this special concert and celebrate Streisand’s upcoming fall tour, Warner Strategic Marketing will release the DVD debut of the concert film, ONE VOICE. Featuring the best-selling female singer of all time performing some of her best-loved songs, the DVD will be available September 12 at all retail outlets and at www.rhino.com for a suggested retail price of $19.99.

Invitations were sent in a paisley-covered tin box along with a taped message from Streisand who explained the reason for the rare performance: “Sometimes we forget the importance of one voice, of each of our voices, and the enormous difference it can make in all our lives – in history. I feel I must sing again to do what I can to insure a safer and better world. That’s the message. Please join me on September 6th, at my home, under the stars, we’ll have dinner, watch the sunset, share the music and send the message. I’d really like you to come.”

The DVD also includes a new introduction by Streisand who highlights the similarities between the political climate during the concert and today. “…the parallels to 1986 are worth paying attention to. If you are viewing this in 2006, we are again facing a mid-term election with so many critical issues at stake: Global warming, nuclear disarmament, warfare in the Middle East, education for children are just the tip of the iceberg. ‘One Voice’ was my way of bringing urgent issues to a public forum and with the release of the new DVD, I’m very proud that the work we started 20 years ago will continue on.”

Featuring more than an hour of footage, the DVD contains the entire show, which has been remastered in 5.1 surround sound. Comedian, Robin Williams opened the show with one of his trademark, stream-of-consciousness monologues. Omitted from the original CD release of ONE VOICE, Williams’ warm-up performance has been restored for the new DVD along with Streisand’s taped invitation.

Dressed in a white turtleneck and a long white skirt, Streisand opened the concert with “Somewhere,” the first of two songs that she performed from the musical West Side Story – she also sang, “Something’s Coming.” The evening included a pair of Judy Garland covers as well – “Over The Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz and “It’s A New World” from A Star Is Born.

Streisand’s unmistakable voice was in fine form as she delivered some of her own classics including the multi-Grammy winning single, “Evergreen,” “People,” “The Way We Were” and “Papa Can You Hear Me?” from Yentl, the artist’s directorial debut. The concert took a surprising turn when Barry Gibb joined Streisand for a pair of duets – the only time the two performed on stage together. Six years earlier, her Gibb produced Guilty, became the biggest-selling album of Streisand’s storied career. The singers revisited “What Kind Of Fool” along with the album’s Grammy-winning title track.

The evening concluded with a nod to the evening’s political overtones with “America, The Beautiful” and “Happy Days Are Here Again,” a song from Streisand’s 1963 debut that was adopted by the Democratic Party as a theme song that election year. Since its debut in 1986, ONE VOICE has raised more than $7 million in profits that have been channeled through The Streisand Foundation to charities committed to anti-nuclear activities and the preservation of our environment, civil liberties, and human rights.

The only female on the RIAA’s Top 10 list of artists, Streisand’s career includes 50 gold, 30 platinum and 13 multi-platinum, albums. Last year Warner Strategic Marketing released Barbra Streisand – The Television Specials, a DVD collection that has been certified 5x platinum.
