February 2005
CLEAR DAY Arrives on DVD This Month
Tuesday, 08-Feb-2005 8:13 PM

It's gorgeous, folks!

Caleigh Follows in 'Auntie Barb's' Footsteps
Wednesday, 16-Feb-2005 6:41 AM
Thanks to Kim EJ, who emailed The Barbra Archives with
this news tip.
Australia's "Soap World" (in a column written by Adele
Heydenrich and Twiggy) had this ditty on Caleigh
Peters, Barbra's godchild:
The gorgeous 16-year-old daughter of two
successful Hollywood producers, recently signed
her very first recording contract. Hollywood
Records is so keen on her that her first
single is going to be the title song of
Disney's new movie, Ice Princess. She filmed
the music video last weekend.

Barbra on DVD in 2005
Wednesday, 16-Feb-2005 7:00 AM
Streisand fans certainly had lots to be grateful for
in 2004 when Sony released the MGM concert and
Universal gave us ALL NIGHT LONG on DVD. In just a
couple of weeks, CLEAR DAY will arrive, too (my
preview copy from Paramount looks awesome!).
So ... that leaves A STAR IS BORN and YENTL.
Here's what The Barbra Archives knows about their
status... An L.A. production company is currently
working on A STAR IS BORN for Warner Brothers home
video. (I actually made some suggestions to them for
bonus material! I made sure to suggest the Geraldo
Rivera and Barbara Walters interviews!). There's no
official release date yet, but look for ASIB in 4th
quarter 2005.
As for YENTL, my contact at MGM Home Video emailed me
this week: "Nothing is firmed up yet."
Also, while I was doing some interviews for MEET THE
FOCKERS, I was told that Barbra worked on director's
commentary for YENTL during the filming of FOCKERS.
And last year during OPRAH AFTER THE SHOW, Barbra told
the audience that the film had been color-corrected.
The scenes which were shown on INSIDE THE ACTORS
STUDIO looked like they had been excerpted from the
new home video version — they looked gorgeously
sepia-toned, with deep browns.
So ... YENTL is probably due in 2005, too, although an
official date has not been released.
Of course, April marks the 40th anniversary of MY NAME
IS BARBRA being broadcast on CBS. A DVD release of the
television specials has been looming for several years
now. Unfortunately, no update on them ... yet.

Barbra, Bill, Stephen, & Harold
Saturday, 19-Feb-2005 7:54 AM
Barbra and Bill Clinton are honorary chairs for a
benefit that will honor Stephen Sondheim. The proceeds
from the evening will go to Young Playwrights, Inc.
For more information on the concert, go to
www.sondheim75.com
Streisand fan Robin Lipman called the Young
Playwrights Committee chairperson, and he said that
unfortunately, Barbra would not be at the event.
Barbra is also serving as an honorary chair for the
Harold Arlen Centennial celebration. Barbra will not
be singing live, however she has been quoted in
several newspaper articles about the composer:
"His melodies hit you in the gut ... soulful, almost
painful, moving,"
"When I got to duet with him singing Ding Dong! The
Witch Is Dead, I came to know the little-boy part of
Harold," Streisand recalls. "We had fun being kids
together on that recording. I believe that decades
from now, people will be as affected by his music as
I've been. Thank you, Harold."

Barbra & Dustin Give Oscar to Clint
Sunday, 27-Feb-2005 11:55 PM

Barbra and Dustin Hoffman gave out the last award of
the evening at the 77th Academy Awards, which aired on
ABC tonight.
After Dustin told Barbra she looked beautiful, Barbra
said "Thank you, Bernie," affectionately calling
Dustin by his MEET THE FOCKERS character name.
After Dustin read the nominees, Barbra reached for the
envelope. After opening it to read the winner, she
announced that she wasn't wearing her glasses, and
therefore couldn't read the name. Dustin looked at the
name on the envelope and whispered it in Barbra's ear.
Barbra turned to the audience and smiled, "I'm so glad
to give you this award again, Clint."
MILLION DOLLAR BABY won the Oscar for Best Picture.
Barbra had given the Oscar to Clint Eastwood in 1993
for Best Director.

Oscar Wrap-Up
Tuesday, 01-Mar-2005 6:10 AM

After Sunday evening's Oscar telecast (where
co-presenter Dustin Hoffman was obviously "celebrating") Barbra changed into a black tuxedo suit
and attended the Governors Ball (a sit-down dinner)
with her husband, James Brolin.
In USA Today, it was reported Barbra said, "I'm
starving," as she put on black-rimmed glasses (which
she had forgotten to wear while presenting the Best
Picture Oscar), and dragged James Brolin to their
table.
Later, at a party in the home of Dani Janssen, NY
Daily News reported: "Word is the biggest cutups were
those good-time gals Barbra Streisand and Oprah
Winfrey."

Monday, 14-Mar-2005 6:02 AM
UPDATED: Wednesday, 16-Mar-2005 7:21 AM
The All About Barbra site is reporting they spoke with
Marty Erlichman, who confirmed the RUMOR is untrue.

This item appeared in today's Page Six column in the
New York Post:
March 14, 2005 -- BABS is coming back — again. Sources
close to Barbra Streisand (above) say the singer, who
has retired more than once, is going to "tour" in
England. One source said: "Barbra is looking into
doing a concert in London and may go on the road in
England. But nothing is finalized." Another insider
added, "She's never done England and has said she
wants to now." But the success of "Meet the Fockers"
may hold up her concert comeback. "There is also talk
of doing a sequel to 'Fockers' because it made so much
money," the first source added.

Barbra Sends Video to Sondheim
Tuesday, 29-Mar-2005 6:42 PM
Barbra participated in the Sondheim tribute Monday
3/21 via video.
Barbra, with Sammy, her dog, growling in the
background, remembered the weekend she spent with
Sondheim while he rewrote the lyrics for "Putting It
Together" -- on her 1985 Broadway Album.
According to Michael Musto's column, Barbra said:
"Stephen, I'll never forget the time I kept you
prisoner in my Malibu house so you could write eight
new rhymes for 'Putting It Together.' "
Playbill online:
Children and Art, the salute to Stephen Sondheim March
21 at the New Amsterdam Theatre, celebrating the 75th
birthday of the famed Broadway composer-lyricist, will
feature video segments from Barbra Streisand and the
cast of "Desperate Housewives."

Star is Born DVD Due Out B4 End of Year
Tuesday, 29-Mar-2005 8:16 PM
In an online chat sponsored by Home Theater Forum this
evening, reps from Warner Home Video took questions
from DVD fans about their upcoming release slate.
Regarding the Streisand DVD, Warner Home Video said
the following:
"A STAR IS BORN '76 will be out before the end of
the year."

April 2005
Streisand's DWARF
Friday, 15-Apr-2005 5:53 AM
In Army Archerd's column yesterday, he focused on
Barbra's Barwood Films. Barwood, along with the Gary
Smith Co. and Sonny Murray have acquired the rights to
"Mendel's Dwarf," a novel by Simon Mawer, about a
scientist who struggles to unravel the genetic secrets
of achondroplasia (dwarfism) as well as his entangled
relationship with a woman.
Sonny Murray is scripting; Peter Dinklage will star;
Streisand will executive produce with Cis Corman and
Gary Smith.
And Archerd quotes Streisand:
What attracted Streisand to the project, she said,
is that it "uniquely combined elements of science,
fantasy and the brave new world of genetic research.
It explores the future of humanity, eugenics, the
existence of God as well as the meaning of true love
and acceptance."

Streisand in PSA for Alzheimer's
Tuesday, 19-Apr-2005 6:18 AM
From Brand Week:
Barbara Streisand and Peter Falk are the featured
players in a national PSA campaign from the
Alzheimer's Association.
The effort takes one of Streisand's signature
songs as its theme, "The Way We Were," which she also
sings in the TV spot. Falk does VO in the spot, which
was directed and produced by trio films, Los Angeles.
The Alzheimer's Association, Chicago, said this is
the first time that Streisand has released the rights
to this song. The overall theme of the PSA is to
"encourage American's to protect their precious
memories" by joining the fight against Alzheimer's.
[...]
The Barbra Archives checked out the very moving spot.
Barbra does not appear in it. The spot features the lusciously orchestrated movie version of her vocal for "The Way We
Were."
