Barbra Streisand and husband James Brolin were in New York this weekend, attending the first meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative. According to its website, the participants "will spend time in high level workshops and group sessions as well as informal gatherings, creating the ideal platform for challenging current thought, fostering enlightened leadership and seeking tangible solutions to a number of complex and urgent global problems."

Streisand, an ardent supporter of President Bill Clinton, told the Sunday Telegraph, "This is such a great idea. I think Bill's great and he's doing such an important thing here."

Of Streisand, Mr. Clinton said, "Barbra is a great woman and good friend. She was also fantastic to my mother. She met her at my inauguration in 1993 and when she heard she was ill, she called her and invited her to her show in Las Vegas."

Barbra is pictured with Rev. Jesse Jackson. They both attended a luncheon on Saturday with a plenary discussion on "Global Warming and Severe Weather Events" from 12:45 - 1:40 PM.

During her trip, Barbra visited her favorite haunts in New York. Barbra and James Brolin ate at Patsy's Italian Restaurant. They were also spotted taking in a performance of Light in the Piazza. One fan wrote:

I sat right behind her at the show. She and Brolin and her son (I think) and a curly red headed girl sat just as the lights were going out. A few minutes after act two began, her cell phone went off! Brolin (on the aisle - K313) gave her a dirty look and she fumbled in her purse to turn it off. I could see from where I was sitting that she keeps a picture of a white fluffy dog as her screensaver. They left as the bows started.
